Night Lights: Ruben V, Chris Taylor team up for weekly gig

"Night Lights: Ruben V, Chris Taylor team up for weekly gig
By Jim Beal

It's too soon to tell if it'll take, but it appears as if local and area musicians have made resolutions to work more and to work different kinds of gigs.

Ruben V, already one of the busiest and most versatile singing, songwriting guitarists on the scene, will join forces with guitarist, singer and songwriter Chris Taylor to work every Thursday, until further notice, at Gus & Woodrow's, 14541 Roadrunner Way.

V, able to kick out the blues/rock jams with his band and easily switch gears to do a solo acoustic set, will take the latter path for the Thursday shows. V's latest disc, "Lucky Day," is a straight-up solo acoustic effort. While he can make a Fender guitar talk, V also knows how to pen heartfelt and incisive lyrics.

Taylor, like V, also is comfortable in various musical settings. A well-known performer on the Christian rock circuit, Taylor also knows his way around the solo trip. Taylor has a pair of new albums on the market, "Brand New Ache" and "The Lo-Fi Project." Showtime at Gus & Woodrow's on Thursday is 9:30 p.m. There's no cover charge. You can call the club at (210) 558-9939."

Jim Beal Jr.'s Night Lights covers the area music scene Wednesday in S.A. Life and Friday in Weekender. He also plays bass in the local band Ear Food. Send e-mail to jbeal@express-news.net. Beal will be the host of the "Third Coast Music Network" show from 3-7 p.m. Thursday on KSYM, 90.1 FM.

DEC 14 SAN ANTONIO HOUSE PARTY UPDATE

Cool: Seems the House Party is going to be only ONE part of December's festivities. The December 14 House Party -- we learned this today at christaylormusic.com -- is not technically the album release (more on that below), but more of a Christmas concert and a chance to get up-close-and-personal with Chris & his Orchestra. It's still on, and you can get both CDs* there at that time, but....

DEC 7-9 ALBUM RELEASE PARTY WEEKEND

Two events will align, collide and conspire to make December 7-9 weekend the official CD release party weekend for the two "discs for da fans"*
The first event is the official Album Release Party and the second is the Greg Carnes Productions annual Christmas Party. Both are still TBA (although rumors place one of the events in the Broadway / Alamo Heights area of San Antonio) but will almost certainly be announced SOON with time & venue.

VISIT CHRISTAYLORMUSIC.COM FOR VIDEOS & PICS

You can always visit http://www.christaylormusic.com for the latest on Chris... Have you seen the newly revised menu design which had its debut last week? Hey, these are earth-shattering things. Wake the kids. Tell the neighbors.
In one session I was able to show the "astronaut" music video to my co-workers, show them making-of-the-video video, show them when Chris is in concert next, and pull a photo of drummer Shane Kyle off the web for use in the upcoming CD package! All on one visit!

*these are 2 CD releases that were made a reality because of YOU, Chris' loyal fans. These are not official label releases, so they're probably never going to show up on national radio, etc., unless YOU and i put them there!
(who knows what the label will say when they hear these new amazing songs!)

NEWSFLASH September 28, 2001

For immediate release:

Two new CDs from Taylor due for simultaneous november release.

(SAN ANTONIO) chris taylor's "brand new ache" and "the lo/fi project" should see an early november release date. both recorded here in san antonio, the projects feature many of taylor's friends (ruben v, lady jane grey etc) while keeping a very homegrown feel to the songs. the lyrics are some of the most intimate stuff taylor's put out in years without much of any reading in between the lines. since these projects are independant, they probably won't be distributed to the stores so keep your eyes peeled to the web site or go catch taylor in concert where he'll have them for sale on his travelling merch table.

stay tuned into the news flash section for all details concerning
the albums and the album release parties (in the works)
